Overlooked in Appalachia Announces 2026-27 Executive Board

Overlooked in Appalachia is proud to announce the executive cohort for 2026-27. This board will be instrumental in advancing the organization's mission across the region and beyond.
Hunter Mehaffey, from Waynesville, NC, will serve as Executive Director. Mehaffey is studying Media and Communication with a minor in Marketing. He joined OIA in 2024 and has been a key driver throughout the organization's rebrand initiative and digital relaunch.
Corey Ray, a San Diego transplant, will serve as Co-Executive Director. Ray is a senior studying Media and Communication with a concentration in Journalism and a minor in Communication Studies. Ray joined the OIA Executive Board in 2026.
Brian Disoso, from Fayetteville, NC, will serve as Editorial Director. Disoso is a Graduate Student studying Brand and Media Strategy. He graduated in May 2026 with a bachelor's in Media and Communication and a minor in journalism. Fall 2026 will be his first term on the OIA Executive Board.
Brennan Chitwood, from Lenoir City, TN, will serve as Events Director. Chittwood is studying Media and Communication with a minor in filmmaking. He looks forward to serving the community that raised him.
Kat Staton, from Bristol, TN, will serve as Brand Director. Staton is a Media and Communication major with a minor in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. They first joined the OIA Executive Board in 2025 and have been instrumental in the organization's rebrand initiative.
Cheyenne Hensley, from Kingsport, TN, will serve as Development Director. Hensley is a senior studying Media and Communication with a minor in digital marketing and a concentration in advertising/PR. She joined the OIA Executive Board earlier this year as the inaugural fundraising executive.
