As citizens of East Tennessee know, the Tri-Cities area is well known for its beautiful scenery and places to visit. Today’s feature details one of the most iconic destinations in the region.
Located in Kingsport, Tennessee, Bays Mountain Park is full of entertaining activities for kids and adults alike. These include barge rides, planetarium shows, biking and hiking trails and animal habitats.
With its wide range of exhibits and outdoor adventures, it is no wonder why so many people get excited to spend the day at Bays Mountain Park. Going back over 100 years, Bays Mountain has managed to capture the imagination of the people that have visited.
Even before the park’s opening on May 24, 1971, people were visiting the mountain to hike, fish, camp and harvest timber from 1944 to 1964.
Even before then, however, the park’s birth sprouted from the development of the iconic dam in the 1910s, built as a water source for Kingsport at a time when it needed water.
Bays Mountain Park is full of rich history and serves as a premier family destination for Tri-Cities families and tourists.
